Reversing heart disease, part one
You may already be familiar with one of the biggest threats to our health: it is heart disease in all its existing forms—atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries from plaque buildup), stroke, hypertension (high blood pressure), peripheral artery disease, arrhythmia, high cholesterol, congestive heart failure, aneurysm, and thrombosis.
While sometimes genetic, it is mostly preventable and treatable, yet is the leading cause of death in the United States, Canada, and England (affecting approximately 700,000 people in the U.S.).
Issues to ponder for Election 2008
Do you lean to the right or the left? Your political standing is more than that, however. Do you also veer toward Authoritarianism or Libertarianism? There's a way to plot out your political leanings: visit PoliticalCompass.org and find where your ideology rests on the scale.
But do your political inclinations even matter in deciding who to vote for? Each candidate has their views of what prosperity, economic stability, and international relations mean. And both of this year's candidates seem to be conveniently promising utopia for each and every one of us without always explaining the intricate details how we will arrive there.
Trying to find a cure for food sensitivities
Can you imagine not being able to eat chocolate? No, seriously. That's me. Think of all the guilty pleasure I've been missing. But eating it makes me very ill with migraines, fever, nausea, and swelling. The same happens when I eat aged cheeses, such as Gruyere, or drink red wine.
I've also developed other sensitivities. Ice cream, sour cream, and other milk products cause chronic sinus problems. Black tea brings on pounding headaches. Wheat products produce fatigue and BIG dark bags under my eyes. I love all these foods! Imaging living a life of such extreme deprivation...
History-making week for U.S. financial community
While we've been watching the news dominated by the tragedy of Hurricane Ike, the deadly Los Angeles commuter train crash, and the media obsession with John McCain's Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, unprecedented history has been unfolding in the U.S. financial community and being reported in the footnotes of the media.
Plastic Bag Controversy
As awareness of the consequences regarding the use of plastic bags grows, more people are ditching them for reusable bags or paper. Plastic bags are made of polyethylene, derived from crude oil, and with the recent increase in U.S. fuel prices, the desire is even greater to lessen our reliance on plastic bags, and ultimately our foreign oil dependency. It is believed that, except for the 3-5% being recycled, all the plastic that's ever been created still exists on the planet. Because of its inability to completely break down or recycle easily, and due to its lightweight nature, the proliferation of plastic bags means quite a few fly or float into habitats that cause a great deal of permanent harm to native wildlife.
Neopaganism is one of fastest growing religions
Neopaganism--a modern form of the ancient, pre-Christian religion that honors the intelligent forces of nature and its associated gods and goddesses--is now among the fastest growing religions, roughly doubling every 18 months in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
The power of analyzing your dreams
Dream consultant Mary Grandy likes to give helpful advice on how to remember your dreams and how they can positively impact our daily lives.
While most people find it hard to remember upon awakening what they've just dreamed, Mary says it can be done. “The subconscious mind is easily programmed; if you really want to remember your dreams just tell yourself you want that information and it will provide it,” she said.
Why carbs are the real reason people get and stay fat
According to Gary Taubes, author of Good Calories, Bad Calories, the real reason people get fat is not because they eat too much and exercise too little. His research reveals it is the overconsumption of refined carbohydrates consisting of flour and sugar. He states that political influences over the past 50 years have skewed public information to make it seem that dietary fat and cholesterol are the main culprits in obesity, when in actuality there is little to no objective data to support this.
The advancement of complementary medicine
and natural healing
As we observe the health trends taking place in this country, the evidence is becoming clearer that the U.S. is now poised to make significant progress in creating a safer, more open environment for effective, accessible, and viable alternatives to our now entrenched and sometimes deadly institution of conventional medicine.
Recommended Reading: "Flowdreaming"
Even though "Flowdreaming" was published in 2006, I only recently discovered a copy of this combination book/CD at my local bookstore.
I have long believed in a Universal, divine flowing energy that works to bring about balance and harmony, yet Summer McStravick has actually proposed that one could shift their awareness into this divine flow--a dimension of your existence where all things and events originate and your highest good is manifested--to create a more fulfilling life.
Intuition more than just fringe science
Researchers from the University of Leeds report that intuition is a real psychological process that lies just beyond our conscious awareness.
Gerald Hodgkinson, the lead author of the report that appears in the British Journal of Psychology, says it isn't just a random response.
